The Abberior Instruments STED microscope is here and available to use!

August 27, 2021

After a long process the new Abberior Instruments STED microscope is here, installed, and ready to use! This amazing microscope uses Stimulated Emission Depletion (STED) to bypass the normal resolution limit of 250-300 nm. This microscope, with a well-prepared sample, can resolve features down to 20-30 nm in xy and 60-100 nm in z. Sample preparation is similar to confocal except there are a few fluorophores that work much better than others. Here's a link to some details of sample prep: https://abberior.rocks/expertise/protocols/. Be sure to talk to Ben to confirm your sample preparation plans.

The microscope is fully featured and is compatible with green, red, and far red STED imaging. Fixed and live sample can be imaged. It is also an excellent choice for regular confocal imaging especially for low signal or high background samples. It's adaptive optics feature will let you get high quality imaging surprisingly deep into thick samples. Contact Ben for more information!
